Alice Shannon
May 18, 1938 - May 7, 2023

Alice F. Shannon, 84, of Fairbank passed away early Sunday morning, May 7, 2023, at her home.  Public graveside services will begin at 1:00 PM on Friday May 12, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Fairbank with Deacon Jim Patera officiating.  Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.  The Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein is caring for arrangements.

Alice Frances Brickman was born May 18, 1938 in Sumner, the daughter of Edgar Henry and Annetta Juanita (Chase) Brickman.  She attended the Oran Country School, graduating from Oran High School with the class of 1956.  From there, she was employed at the variety store in Sumner.  Going to dances at the Coliseum in Oelwein, Alice met Clarence “Whitey” Shannon.  On November 20, 1958, they were united in marriage at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank.

Alice was a wonderful, loving mother who was gifted with so many talents: baking her “famous” bread, cooking, sewing, and painting her beautiful landscapes.  She truly enjoyed playing her left-handed guitar or fun machine while singing with Clarence.  She shared actively in her children and grandchildren’s lives.  Her faith and love of Jesus was an enduring strength.

Alice is survived by her five daughters: Jeanne Shannon-Kleitsch of Fairbank, Jackie (Bruce) Berryhill of Fairbank, Jodie Puff of Hazleton, Janelle Shannon of Fairbank and Jessica Shannon of Fairbank; two sons: John Shannon of Independence and James Shannon of Fairbank; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Audrey (Chris) Brickman of Brooklyn and Sharry McFarlane of Lamont; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Clarence; parents; two brothers: Bernard Brickman and Beryl Brickman; her son-in-law Craig Kleitsch.
