Alice Stanek
June 1, 1947 - February 4, 2022

Alice Stanek, 74, of Oelwein passed away Friday February 4, 2022 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.  Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 PM on Tuesday February 8, 2022 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM on Wednesday February 9, 2022 at the funeral home with Doug McFarlane officiating.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.  A memorial fund has been established. 

Alice Lorene (Klevjer) Stanek was born in Hazleton on June 1, 1947, the daughter of longtime tavern owner and semi-pro baseball player Harold Arthur Klevjer, and Hazleton doll maker and entrepreneur Leona Mae (Van Vooren) Klevjer.  She graduated from Oelwein High School with the class of 1965.  She then attended the University of Northern Iowa, graduating with her BA in Teaching.  She later earned her Master’s Degree from Upper Iowa University.  On February 26, 1982 she was united in marriage with Jim Stanek in Hazleton.  Alice was employed with K-Mart in Oelwein for 20 years.  She then was a teacher with Oelwein Alternative School, was a substitute teacher in Oelwein and then taught at Four Oaks in Independence.

Left to celebrate Alice’s life are her husband Jim; her children: Eric Stanek of Oelwein, Tracy Stanek of Lamont, Marsha (Curt) Lee of Oelwein, Tammy (Mike) Callan of Oelwein and Sheri (Steve) Cockerham of Oelwein; her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her several nieces and nephews; the “Cluckers”, the OHS Class of ’65, the “Mercy Squad” and the “Ambulance Kids”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; the best step-father ever Arthur J. Van Vooren; her siblings: James A. Fisher and Naomi Charlene Russel-Deforge.
