Arnold Suhr
January 30, 1933 - April 4, 2017

 


Arnold Suhr, 84, of Arlington passed away on Tuesday April 4, 2017 at Arlington Place in Oelwein.  Visitation will be from 3-6 PM on Sunday April 9, 2017 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein.  Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday April 10, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Oelwein.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.  A memorial fund has been established.

Arnold Paul Suhr was born the first of 13 children on January 30, 1933 in rural Oran to parents Paul and Elsie (Jipson) Suhr.  He graduated from Arlington High School with the class of 1951.  On September 27, 1952 he was united in marriage with Luella Rose Wingert.  He farmed in the Aurora and Arlington areas.  Arnold was on the Board of Directors of the Arlington COOP for 14 years and was on the Senior Citizen’s Housing Board of Directors for 3 terms.

Arnold enjoyed fishing, playing cards, time at his cabin in Harper’s Ferry, snowmobiling, watching wrestling, westerns and the Three Stooges.  Arnold tiled with his own machine, filled many silos, repaired cars and trucks and anything else he could.  You could say he was a Jack of all trades.

Left to celebrate Arnold’s life is his wife Luella; his children: Maxine (Rick) Wahls, David (Renee) Suhr , John (Sue) Suhr and Marie Suhr; his grandchildren: Nathan (Nagisa) Wahls, Naomi Wahls, Ryan Suhr, Kyle Suhr, Jonathan (Amber) Suhr, Jenny (Ray) Williams, Justin Suhr, Jordan Suhr, Jessica Suhr, Jeannie Suhr and Jaydon Suhr; his great-grandchildren: Olivia and Eva Suhr, Noah and Destiny Williams and Leon Wahls; his siblings: Ruth (Roderic) Kamper, Esther Wilson, Paul L. Suhr, Dale (Margaret)Suhr, JoAnn (Dick) Hughson, Nancy (Richard) Buhmann, Ronald Suhr, Mary (Terry) Henderson, Duane (Mary) Suhr and Donna (Mike) Buhman; sister-in-law Beverly Suhr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Donald and Gary Suhr; sister-in-law Elaine Suhr; grandchildren Jeremy and Jamie Suhr.
