Bette Infeld, 70, of Oelwein passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 28, 2025 at the University Of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM on Monday November 10, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Rosary Services beginning at 9:45 AM. Funeral mass will then begin at 11:00 AM with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Marys Cemetery at New Hampton. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.
Bette Jean Infeld was born in Black Hawk County on December 28, 1954 to parents Albert and Annabelle (Brough) Oleson. She graduated from West High School in Waterloo with the class of 1974. In February of 1982 she was united in marriage with George Infeld at St. Johns Catholic Church in Waterloo.
From 1984–1993 Bette and her husband George were contracted truck drivers for the U.S. Navy. George and Bette had their Commercial Driver’s License and would drive coast to coast to different Navy bases. Once Bette’s daughter was born in 1993, Bette and George settled down in New Hampton. In 2016, George and Bette relocated to Oelwein.
Bette’s greatest joy in life was being a mother. She participated in her daughter’s activities throughout her childhood. Bette was highly active in the New Hampton and Waverly Area Celiac Group ever since her daughter was diagnosed in 2002. She was the vice president and participated in creating the gluten free cookbook.
Bette had a passion for crocheting and sewing. She found great pleasure in donating her creations to charities. She also enjoyed sharing her potholders with friends and family. Bette adored the simple pleasures in life of spending time with her family and friends.
She was a spiritual individual who was involved in many church activities. Bette was member of the Catholic Daughters, Court St. Rita at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein. She was one of the kindest and sweetest people you would ever meet. Bette will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and anyone who knew her.
Left to celebrate Bette’s life are her husband George of Oelwein; her daughter Mary Ann Infeld of Fayette; her sister Janee Ann (Ron) Johnston of Evansdale; her sister-in-law Pat Oleson of Spirit Lake; her nephews Craig and Jon Root, as well as many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry Oleson.
