Darlyne Halligan
March 22, 1934 - October 21, 2023

Darlyne Marie Halligan, 89, of Oelwein passed away on Saturday October 21, 2023 at Arlington Place Assisted Living in Oelwein.  Rosary Services will begin at 3:45 PM on Thursday October 26, 2023 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein with Visitation following from 4:00-7:00 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday October 27, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Fr. Ray Atwood and Deacon Jim Patera officiating.  Interment will be at Our Lady of Good Council Cemetery in Moorland, Iowa.  A memorial fund has been established for later designation. 

Darlyne Marie Halligan was born March 22, 1934 in Moorland to parents Frederick and Hazel (Stumph) Lombard.  She graduated from Sommers High School in Sommers, Iowa.  On June 1, 1954 she was united in marriage with Walter J Halligan at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moorland.  Darlyne was employed as a bookkeeper with Coats in Ft. Dodge and Ace Hardware in Oelwein.  She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Rosary Society and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, all in Oelwein.  She worked at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Oelwein for over 20 years and after 18 years finally graduated out of Kindergarten!  During her time she touched many students’ lives.  Darlyne’s faith and family were the most important to her.  She enjoyed following her children’s activities and sharing in their lives.  She was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader.  She enjoyed gardening and sharing what she gardened with other, Antiquing and time with her friends.  She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes Men’s Basketball fan.  Darlyne was also Mrs. Claus for Old Tyme Christmas for 18 years and loved reading to the children.  Darlyne loved traditions and sharing those with family and friends.  Baking and decorating Christmas cookies was one of her favorite holiday activities.

Left to celebrate Darlyne’s life are her children: Jane Halligan of Algonquin Il,  Peter Halligan of Oelwein and Ruth (Jerry) Sturch of Raymond; her grandchildren: Levi Lohman, Collin Halligan, Connor Halligan, Jackson Halligan, Betsy Halligan, Jensen Halligan, Brandon Sturch, Austin (Harmony) Sturch, Hunter Sturch and Payton Sturch; her great-grandchildren: Maddox Sturch and Scarlett Sturch.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her grandson Cael Halligan; her son-in-law Dwayne Lohman; and five brothers.
