Marietta Iola Forney was born on June 10, 1920 in Urbana, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Leroy and Ida (Calver) Cue. On January 12, 1938 she was united in marriage to Lawrence C. Forney in Independence, Iowa. She followed her husband around while he was in the service and then they settled in the Oelwein are where Lawrence worked for the U. S. Postal Office. Marietta was good at math and maintained the budget for the house hold, keeping everybody sheltered and feed. Her main goal was raising her family and she did that with a lot of love. She taught her children the values of being kind and polite at all times. She also enjoyed crafts and art and had a great sense of humor. Marietta touched a lot of lives and will be missed by all who knew her.
Marietta is survived by her children, Darlene Follmer of Oelwein, Larry (Sandy) Forney of LaPorte City, Deanna Parker of Oelwein, Gary (Bonnie) Forney of LaPorte City, Carma (Roger) Strempke of Oelwein, Donald Forney and his significant other, Teresa Youngblut of Oelwein and Jerry (Barb) Forney of Maynard; fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence (December 1, 1998), two son-in-laws, Kenneth Follmer and Doug Parker; a great grandson, Miles Davis; four brothers, Lloyd, Grover, Eldon and Obbie; six sisters, Leatha, Edith, Irene, Betty Pearl and Louise; and her parents, Harry and Ida.
Funeral services will be held at Geilenfeld Funeral Chapel, Oelwein on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 11:00 A.M.
