Fred Davidson Jr., 72, of Oelwein passed away on Sunday March 30, 2025 at Doctors Hospital of Renaissance in Edinburgh, Texas. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM on Friday April 11, 2025 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein with a Masonic service beginning at 7:00 PM by the Hebron Masonic Lodge #374 of Oelwein. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday April 12, 2025 at the funeral home with Pastor Dave Byrd officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.
Fred was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1952 to parents Fred Davidson Sr. and Betty Jean (Inman) Davidson in Newton, Iowa. Fred spent his younger years in the Hamburg, Iowa area and then the family moved to northeast Iowa.
1971 was an important year in his life, he graduated from New Hampton High School, enlisted in the US Navy, and met the girl who would be his wife. Fred married Rae Ann Bond in 1973 at the Presbyterian Church in Wadena, Iowa. In 1975, when his tour of duty was over they settled in Oelwein, Iowa. He began working for John Deere and retired in 2012 after 33 years of employment. Fred was proud to be an American, a Veteran and proud union member of UAW 838.
Fred was a talented bass player and had a great singing voice. He did much to encourage young musicians in their journey. He enjoyed spending time at the Mississippi River fishing or just enjoying the water and the scenery. Fred had many friends and never met a stranger. He could make you laugh by telling his many tales.
Fred is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rae Ann; his Daughters: Connie (Scott) Jorgensen, Kim (Mike) Gill, Renae (Andy) Hines and Son, Scott Davidson. Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his special friends Missy and Kevin Langdale and a bonus daughter Tina Woodson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law Merl and Mildred Bond; his brothers: Keith and Steve Davidson; his brother-in-law Dennis Bond; his sister-in-law Jan Bond; his grandson Allan Bergom; and niece and nephew Steven Davidson and Michelle Tamayo.
