Garnet McKibbin, 93, of Oelwein passed away Thursday August 20, 2026 at MercyOne Medical Center in Oelwein.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Monday August 31, 2026 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein.  Burial will be held privately in Lafayette Cemetery at Alburnett, IA.

Garnet Mae McKibbin was born in Sumner on May 30, 1933 to parents Fred and Alice Mohlis.  She was united in marriage with Bobb McKibbin.  Garnet was a homemaker as well as employed as a teacher’s aide, working with Special Education students at Wing’s Park Elementary School in Oelwein, for many years.

Garnet enjoyed going to the casino, fishing and gardening.  She also enjoyed playing frequent Scrabble and card games.  Garnet also loved to dance, paint pictures and decorate.

Left to celebrate Garnet’s life are her son Kirk McKibbin of Marion; her grandson Reece McKibbin of Marion and her brother Kenneth (Juanita) Mohlis.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son Dominic “Nick” McKibbin; her sister Elaine Buckman; and her brothers: Wayne Mohlis and Bob Mohlis.
