Gladys Schmitz
December 17, 1933 - August 13, 2017

Gladys Marie Schmitz, 83, passed away on August 13, 2017 at Oelwein Healthcare Center. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home where there will be a Parish Rosary at 3:45 pm. Services will be on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Father Ray Atwood officiating.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.

Gladys was born on December 17, 1933 on the family farm near Hudson, Iowa the daughter of John and Irene (Weber) Bauler. On November 16, 1953 she was united in marriage to Ralph T. Schmitz at St. Mary’s Of Mt. Carmel at Eagle Center. Gladys enjoyed fishing and camping at Lake Pepin, quilting, riding with Ralph in his truck, flowers, and anything that got her outdoors, but mostly she enjoyed her time spent with her family.  She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Sacred Heart Rosary Society and the Sacred Heart Quilt Club. Everybody said Gladys was a patient person and according to the bible patience is described as characteristic of love and Gladys was full of love. God has taken another angel into Heaven.

Gladys is survived by her children, Ron (Cathy) Schmitz of Waconia, MN, Connie (Burr) Ekstrand of Hazleton, Tom (Julie) Schmitz of Oelwein, Jay (Deb) Schmitz of St. Louis Park, MN and Diane “Di” (Kirk) Dahl of Oelwein, Grandchildren, Jeff (Carissa), Chris (Cristin), BJ (Amy), Eric, Erin, Jim (Heather), Sara (Chris), Caitlin, Matt (Alyssa), Chad, Zach (Nikki), Lisa (Matt), 11 great grandchildren, siblings: Bonita, Mae, Kathleen, John (Marlys) and Kenny (Arlene), and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene, husband Ralph, twin sons in infancy, son Denny and two brothers, Don and Erwin.
