Helen Hillman, 100, of Oelwein passed away Thursday March 19, 2026 at Hillcrest Home in Sumner. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Thursday March 26, 2026 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home of Oelwein. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday March 27, 2026 at Stanley Union Church in Stanley. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens at Hazleton. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.
Helen Lucille Hillman was born on the family farm in Hazleton on February 2, 1926 to parents Vaun and Florence (Landon) Buckman. She Graduated from Hazleton High School. On November 19, 1944 she was united in marriage with Dale Hillman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Helen enjoyed crocheting and was well known for her dish scrubbers; she also made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She made hundreds of plastic and canvas Crayola boxes for children in Mexico. Helen also enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Stanley Union Church, the church’s Ladies Aide and the Modern Country Club.
Left to celebrate Helen’s life are her children: Duane Hillman of Oelwein, Delbert (Linda) Hillman of Oelwein and Debra (Dennis) Paul of Oelwein; her grandchildren: Jodi (Tim) Thompson, Kim (Chris) Gibson, Brian (Carrie) Hillman, Krista Hillman, Shelly (Brandon) Glenn, Todd Hillman and Corrine (Jason) Upah; fourteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, with another one on the way; and sisters-in-law: Glenda Buckman and grace Abben.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, her brother in infancy; her siblings: James Buckman, Jesse Buckman and Genevieve Birch; her grandson Chad Paul.
The family would like to thank Hillcrest Home and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Helen.
