Duane R. Hummel
November 10, 1938 - March 15, 2014

Duane R. Hummel, 75, of Oelwein, passed away on Saturday March 15, 2014 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.  A memorial visitation will be held from 2-5 PM on Saturday March 22, 2014 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein. Inurnment will be at a later date.  A memorial fund has been established in Duane’s name. 

Duane was born on November 10, 1938 in Arlington, the son of Elton and Marion (Clark) Hummel. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1957.

On March 1, 1959, Duane married Eleanor Leora Rohrig at the Fairbank United Methodist Church. Duane and Eleanor farmed for 29 years in Fayette County. He also drove a milk truck for over 10 years and then retired as a Redi-Mix driver for Manatts in Oelwein (2004). Duane and his wife were members of the Wesleyan Church in Fayette. They enjoyed being on the farm and surrounded by family. His hobbies consisted of lots of gardening and woodworking crafts. 

Duane is survived by his wife Eleanor of Oelwein; his sister Delores Dinger of Cedar Rapids; 2 sister in-laws: Ursula Hummel of West Union and Sandra Rohrig of West Union; 3 sons: Roger (Dawn) Hummel of Maynard, Ronald (Carmie) Hummel of Maynard and Randy (Amy) Hummel of Oelwein; 12 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother Delbert Hummel of West Union; and his brother in-law Merlin Rohrig of Hazleton.
