Kathleen Marie Kappmeyer was born on September 27, 1937 in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Walter John and Francis Berdell (Carver) Powers. She grew up in the area and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1955. She also attended Gates Business School in Waterloo. On July 25, 1959 she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” William Kappmeyer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein and celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in July. Kathleen loved to dance, she first met Chuck at the Coliseum, and they have been dancing together ever since. Her family was number one in her life but she also shared that love with other children she took care of. Kathleen touched many lives in many special ways. She is going to be dearly missed by all.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Chuck, two daughters, Michelle and her husband, John Walters of Strawberry Point, Iowa and Missy and her husband John White of Bettendorf, Iowa, eight grandchildren, Mandy, Jordan, Jacob, Madison, Matt, Riley and Nick, three great grandchildren, Jamisyn, Rien and Maddy and a sister, Margaret (Terry) Cummings of Fairbank, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Francis and an aunt, Helen Cannon.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 18, 2010 with a Parish Rosary at 4:00 PM and a scripture service at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, February 19, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Father Harry Koelker officiating.
