Earl “Bud” Charles Lilly was born on April 3, 1934 in Oelwein, Iowa the son of Earl Benton and Alice (Hunter) Lilly. He grew up in Oelwein and attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School, graduating in May of 1952. From high school Earl went to Loras College in Dubuque for two years. After college Earl began working for the Chicago Great Western Rail Road in Oelwein as a clerk, then in 1968 he moved to Chicago to work for the Union Pacific Rail Road. He retired in 1995 and moved back to Iowa, living in Independence from 1995 to 2003. In 2003 he moved back to Oelwein, where he spent the remainder of his life. Earl was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was very active in his church, he was also a member of Knights of Columbus, a driver for meals on wheels, and a Cedar Valley Hospice Volunteer. Earl loved his family and helping others. In his passing, Earl leaves a void in many lives.
He is survived by his Sister, Gerry Luther and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Lilly, his brother-in-law Donny Luther, his niece Debbie Luther, and his nephew Richie Luther.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
VISITATION: 4-7 PM on Sunday, March 4th, 2012 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein with a Parish Rosary at 4 PM, and a Parish Scripture Service at 6:30 PM.
FUNERAL: 11 AM on Monday, March 5th, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.
Earl will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.
