Mark Lamphier
February 25, 1956 - March 23, 2026

Mark Lamphier, 70, of Oelwein passed away on Monday March 23, 2026 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.  There will be a service beginning at 12:00 PM on Sunday March 29, 2026 followed by visitation until 5:00 PM at Transco Events On Frederick in Oelwein.  In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. 

Mark Allen Lamphier was born in Oelwein on February 25, 1956 to parents Donald and Artis (Stempfle) Lamphier.  He graduated from Oelwein High School with the class of 1974.  He then attended the University of Northern Iowa, as well as Kirkwood Community College.  On May 18, 1979 Mark was united in marriage with Debra Franks at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.  After 30 years, Mark retired from the CN Railroad in 2014.

Mark, known to most as Lammy, coached football, baseball, and basketball for Oelwein High School for 17 years, baseball at South Central Calhoun for 3 years and football at Nashua Plainfield for 1 year.  He also coached the Oelwein Hustler’s and Kings Knights for several years.  He loved coaching and each one of his athletes held a special place in his heart.

Mark enjoyed camping, fishing, athletic events and spending time with his family who he loved dearly.  He also enjoyed watching the Cubs, Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes. 

Left to celebrate Mark’s life are his wife Debra of Oelwein; his children: Kellie (Mark) Carlson of DePere, WI, Nathan (Kiana) Lamphier of Jesup and Nicholas Lamphier of Oelwein; his grandchildren: Trevor, Alec and Kendra Henniges, Kael and Kamri Lamphier; his siblings: Kevin (Katrina) Lamphier of Galveston, TX, Nancy Naslund of Eden Prairie, MN, Vicki (Don) VanEngelenburg of Naples, FL and Glenda (Mike) Hesse of Fairbank; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pat (Tom) Linder of Robins; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Terry Lamphier; his parents-in-law Howard and Irma Franks; his brothers-in-law Tom Brown and Corey Naslund.
