Mary Beth Ziegler
April 12, 1960 - January 2, 2011

Mary Beth Ziegler was born on April 12, 1960 the youngest daughter of Albert M. and Verla M. (Lincoln) Sperry. She grew up in the area and graduated from Oelwein High School in 1978 and American Institute of Business in 1979. On December 12, 1979 Mary Beth was united in marriage to William Ziegler, Jr. in the Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Bill enlisted into the United States Navy and for twenty-five years that was their life. They lived in California, Alabama and Baltimore, Maryland.   In 2001 they purchased an acreage just outside of Clermont and after Bill’s Honorable Discharge in 2005 they moved back to Iowa where she began working for Upper Explorer Land and they began building their new home. This is where on January 2, 2011 Mary Beth passed away.

Mary Beth enjoyed and loved her family very much. She also enjoyed making afghans for her family and close friends, collecting pigs, mismatched socks and anything in the color "red".  Mary Beth had a way about her that just brightened up a room when she walked in. She was a high spirited person who enjoyed life. She was strong right up to the end in her battle with her cancer.   She leaves behind a loving family and so many great friends. They will all miss her dearly.

She is survived by her husband, Bill of Clermont, Iowa, her children, William “Bill” (Kelly) Ziegler, III of Glen Burnie, Maryland and Hattie (Andrew) Ring of Berkeley, California, a grandchild, Josie Ziegler, her mother, Verla Sperry of Oelwein, brother, Bruce (Susan) Sperry of Waterloo, two sisters, Peggy (Dennis) Schrader of Hazleton and Debbie (Shannon) Hershey of Brooklyn, Iowa, mother-in-law, Shirley Ziegler of Oelwein, sisters-in-law, Sharon (Jeff) Weeden of Novelty, Ohio and Marsha (Robin) Shepherd of Vieques, Puerto Rico. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Sperry in 1992 and her father-in-law, William Ziegler, Sr. in 2010.

Bill & your family & all of Mary Beth's & your siblings: I'm deeply sorry to first read of Mary's illness last nite & that MB is in a better place, free of her misery & overlooking her family every day. I met MB a few yrs ago on FB & then find out Bruce/Susie were in school w/me & she was the "Wild one" in the family. MB always wore a smile, friendly & the most outgoing person I've know. She truly loved life & all her family. MB comes from a nice loving family & am so glad you were all there for her during her short illness.
We never know & we all need to enjoy life to the fullest daily. Treasure the memories & the good times, your travels while in the service & your family in the days ahead. Your family & friends are here for you all, please reach out to us when the time is right & keeping everyone posted on 'caring bridge' is a wonderful sight. This is my first time to visit this site. It is great. It is very heart touching & a good source in communicating w/others during hard times. Love to you all & always be close & be there for each other. Blessings, always, a friend. :)

To all of Mary Beth's family - My thoughts and prayers are with you all right now as you go through this difficult time. I am so glad that I was able to reconnect with Mary Beth via Facebook after so many years. I remember sitting across the aisle from her in some class (don't remember which class!) in high school. Mary Beth, Paul Stammeyer and I all shared the same birthday. (Isn't it funny that I remember that after so many years?) Mary Beth is going to be missed. Bill, it is obvious how much you loved and cherished Mary Beth and I'm sure she took great comfort in your care these last few weeks. Hattie and Billy, I don't think anyone could ask for better kids.

Anyone who met Mary Beth loved her. She was such a happy person! She was blessed and spoiled in life with so much love! Her wings and halo are new in this form, but give her a short time and she will be reminding each of us in her own special way, that she is looking out for us. She fought such a brave battle, as did her family. Each and evryone of will meet her again and she will be happy to show us the ropes!
Zig, Billy, Hattie and family. Thank you for sharing her with all of us. You all did her proud! As time goes on we will all see the influence she has had on all of you! Anytime you need an ear or friend or shoulder. I am here for you!
Much Love,
Dana Tate.
Ps Spike was one of the few other than family that would call me Tate
