Deneise McQueen
February 26, 1947 - February 23, 2014

Deneise C. (Bartels) McQueen, 66, of Oelwein passed away on Sunday February 23, 2014.  Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday March 3, 2014 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday March 4, 2014 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home.  Inurnment will be at a later date.  A memorial fund has been established in Deneise’ name.

Deneise was born February 26, 1947 to Raymond and Helen (Haar) Bartels.  She graduated from Sumner High School, and married Virgil McQueen of Cedar Rapids on June 17, 1972.  The couple had five children and resided in Oelwein since 1978.  In the early 1980’s she was co-owner of Professional Cleaners in Oelwein with her wonderful friend Rose Schmidt being the other co-owner for several years.  In 1986 she was hired by Goodwill as a manager, which began her career in social work, caring and helping people with disabilities.  In 2005 she was hired at Full Circle Services as a Program Manager and worked for her long time, dearest friend Nina Brickman.

Everyone who knew Deneise, saw her face light up whenever she talked about her family and work.  On January 19, 2014, Full Circle had an open house to thank her for all the years of love and support she gave to consumers, with many of her co-workers attending.  She worked until days prior to her death, which followed a courageous battle with bile duct cancer.  She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and consumers.

She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil; parents Raymond and Helen Bartels; mother-in-law Marge Musil of Cedar Rapids; brother Larry Bartels of Sumner; brother-in-law Gene Shimp of Montevideo, MN; great grandson Bryce Flaucher of Oelwein; sister-in-laws Ercyle Buscher and Janice Cavalier, both of Cedar Rapids.

My thoughts are with the children of Deneise. Growing up in the same neighborhood with the McQueen's, was great for me because when I visited my friend Steve I had an entire new family to spend my time with right around the corner. I could always count on a welcoming smile and snack from Mom McQueen. Deneise was the matriarch of her family who held them together. Honor her memory by making a point to stay close and love each other as she loved you.

Your mother was a bright light for the many people she served in her lifetime. Her commitment to others is much appreciated in the Oelwein community. She was so blessed to have such a wonderful family and friends that surrounded her.
Thinking of all of you fondly.
