Michael Ryan
March 14, 1946 - September 15, 2025

Michael Ryan, 79, of Hazleton passed away Monday September 15, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.  Visitation will be from 10:00 -11:00 AM on Tuesday September 23, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.  Funeral Mass will then begin at 11:00 AM with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating.  Graveside services will be private in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Hazleton with Military Honors by the American Legion of Oelwein.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.  The Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein is assisting the family. 

Michael Joseph Ryan was born in Rochester, MN on March 14, 1946 to parents William and Dorothy (Benson) Ryan.  He graduated High School in Harmony, MN.  Mike then served his country honorably in the United States Navy during Vietnam.  On September 21, 1968 he was united in marriage with Charlene Smith in Schley, IA.  Mike was employed as an electrician with the CN Railroad for many years, retiring in 2010. 

Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion of Oelwein.  He enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his shop.  Mike was very devoted to his family.

Left to celebrate his life are his wife Charlene of Hazleton; his children: Shawn Ryan of Lakeville, MI, Shane (Erin) Ryan of Hazleton and Shelly (Ryan) Vawter of Hazleton; his grandchildren: Brennon (Madison) Ryan, Abbi (Carter) Block, Morgan Vawter and Maddi Vawter; his great-grandsons: Cade and Cael Block; his sister Faith Bronner of Racine, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
