Nathan Bly
September 8, 1934 - July 26, 2018

Nathan Dale Bly, 83, of Oelwein passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Oelwein Healthcare Center in Oelwein following an extended illness. Visitation will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa with a Masonic Service at 10:30 and the funeral service to follow Masonic service with Pastor Sarah Rohret officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein with a lunch and fellowship to follow burial at the Geilenfeld Funeral home social hall in Oelwein.

Nathan was born on September 8, 1934 in Oelwein the son of Howard and Nyna (Lickiss) Bly. He grew up in Oelwein and graduated from Oelwein High School in 1952. On October 9, 1955 he was united in marriage to Betty Nicholson of Maynard, Iowa. They had four boys, Steve, Scott and twins Richard and Robert. Nathan spent his career in trucking. He was a strong soul and very passionate Iowa Hawkeye fan and a life time member of the I Club. In addition he was a proud (fifty years plus) member of the Masonic Hebron Lodge of Oelwein.

Nathan is survived by his children, Steve (Rene) Bly of Atlanta, Georgia, Scott (Carolyn) Bly of Mooresville, NC and Richard (Jeanie) Bly of North Liberty, Iowa; a sister Belva (Jim) Grell of Waverly, Iowa; six grandchildren, Robert Nathan Bly, Megan Beth Bly, Tyler James Bly, Jessica Richelle Bly, Rhianna Lea Bly and Izabelle Abigail Bly; one great grandson, Kyler Michael Bly; and a special friend Doris Gruetzmacher and family of Oelwein. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Nyna; and a son Robert Bly.

Sorry to hear of Nat's passing. I always enjoyed seeing him and our discussions on sports. He was always a lot of fun to see.
