Frances Newton
July 2, 1924 - May 13, 2014

Frances McElree-Newton, 89, of Ames and formerly of Oelwein passed away on Tuesday May 13, 2014, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.  Visitation will be from 4-7PM on Thursday May 15, 2014, at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein.  Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Peace Lutheran Church in Oelwein with Pastor Michael Holmen and the Reverend Dr. Todd Jenks officiating.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.

Frances Marie Oltrogge was born on July 2, 1924, at Maynard to parents Alfred and Clara (Reinhardt) Oltrogge.  She graduated from West Central High School at Maynard in 1941.  On September 12, 1943, Frances was united in marriage with Harry McElree.  Harry passed away on November 8, 1968.  On April 7, 1972, she was united in marriage with Dale Newton.  Dale passed away on February 13, 2009. Frances was employed as a bookkeeper for 27 years, retiring in 1991.

Frances had been a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Oelwein, and was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames.

Frances loved baking and cooking, scrap booking and cross stitching.  She loved her faith, her church and her family.

Frances is survived by her children: Wanda (Robert) White, Dwight (Connie) McElree, and Beverly (Timothy) Newton; her Stepsons: Timothy (Beverly) Newton, and Thomas (Luellan) Newton; her brother LaVerne (Lorena) Oltrogge; her sisters-in-law: Audrey (Virgil) Gilson, Arlene (Gordon) Sanford; six grandchildren, one step grandson; eleven great-grandchildren, one step great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Harry McElree, and her second husband, Dale Newton.

My sincere sympathy to Wanda & Bob. I so enjoyed visiting with Fran each time I visited my friends at Bethany Manor. She was such a sweet lady with a beautiful smile. Take care and cherish your memories.
