October 22, 1964 - June 13, 2012

 


Jennifer (Jenny) Schlumbohm died peacefully surrounded by her family June 13, 2012 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

A celebration service of Jenny’s life will be Saturday, June 16 at 2:00 P.M. at Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, IA.  Private interment will take place at a later date.

 

Jennifer Doreen Schlumbohm was born October 22 1964 to John E. L. Schlumbohm and Karen Engen Schlumbohm in Waterloo, Iowa.  She attended public school and graduated from the Antes Center in West Union, Iowa in 1985.  She worked at Goodwill Industries in Oelwein for many years.  In 1997 she established residency at ALC Curtis House in Oelwein, where she lived until her death.

 Jenny enjoyed her life caring and sharing with her family and friends.  Jenny never met a stranger! She always held out her hand and said, “Hi, I’m Jenny!”  She loved being able to live independently at Curtis House with her housemates and staff who also became family to her.  She enjoyed bowling, Special Olympics, family events, dances, parties for special occasions, and Dr. Pepper!

 She is survived by her parents  John and Karen, Decorah, brother and family , Michael, Sue, Megan, and Nicholas,  Waverly, sister and family, Kathleen Bell, Bart, and Emma Grimes, and sister Kirsten ”Doreen” Cox, Des Moines.   She is also survived by her uncle and aunt Duane and Lanette Schlumbohm, Ranger, Texas; aunt and uncle Patricia and Steven Baker,  Plainfield, Illinois;  Pat Engen, Beloit, Wisconsin; and cousins.

 She was preceded in death by her sister Margret Anne Schlumbohm; grandparents Melvin and Doris Engen; Grandmother Margretta Schlumbohm.

My thoughts are with the entire family. I have such great childhood memories of Jenny on grampa/grandma's farm and I know my dad is taking care of her in heaven. <3 R.I.P.

Jenny was a dear friend to us all.She would light up the room with her smile and always stop and talk to me.I graduated with Kathy and our parents were friends.So I have known Jenny for a long time.She was a good friend to my brother Stewart.I was blessed to see her every week at the bowling alley.She enjoyed her time there bowling and visiting with friends! She touched a lot of hearts. She will be great missed by many! My thoughts and prayers go out to the family!! Love You!
