Shirley Gordish
November 10, 1928 - January 18, 2016

Shirley Ann Gordish, 87, of Oelwein passed away on Monday January 18, 2016 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein.  Visitation will be from 4-7PM on Thursday January 21, 2016 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday January 22, 2016 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home with Rev. Connie Markle officiating.  Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens at Hazleton.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

Shirley was born on November 10, 1928 in Oelwein to parents Loyd and Daisy (Dewald) Bennett.  She graduated from Oelwein High School with the class of 1946.  She then attended and graduated from Pitzi’s Beauty School in Waterloo.  She was a Beauty Operator at Hazel’s Beauty Shop from 1947-56.  Shirley was united in marriage with William Gordish in 1954 at West Union, IA.

Shirley enjoyed fishing with Bill, Clint Eastwood movies and was very skilled at working crossword puzzles.  She was also a talented sketch artist and dancer.  Her and Bill would “clear the floor” at the Coliseum with their moves.  Her laughter will be missed by all who knew her.

Left to celebrate Shirley’s life are her children: Diana “Dee” (John) Tupper of Oelwein, Bill (Terri) Gordish of Des Moines, Lisa (Charley) Williford of Oelwein; her grandchildren: Mindie, Megan, Noah “Nick”, Kelli, Billi and Gina; and her great-grandchildren: Ava, Chase, Jack, Bailey and Kennedy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Dorothy Kyle; her brother Kenneth Bennett; and her husband William Gordish (1989).
