Marvin E. Sims, 81, of Cocoa Beach, FL died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Wuestoff Hospice in Rockledge, FL.
There will be a memorial open house with Marvin’s family held at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home’s Social Hall on March 4, 2012 from 2-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marvin’s honor to your local Cancer Society, Heart Association or Hospice House.
Marvin was born on December 9, 1930 in Oelwein to parents Harry Benjamin Sr. and Jesse May (Meharry) Sims.
Marvin joined the United States Air Force in July of 1948, where he served until his Honorable Discharge in February of 1965. During his service, Marvin worked in the communication field. Following his discharge, Marvin joined RCA Service Communications Department at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida from July, 1965 to 1996 when he retired. Marvin was an avid reader and loved baseball, especially the Florida Marlins.
Marvin was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he was a member of the VFW and Masons in Oelwein, and the VFW in Cocoa Beach, FL.
Marvin is survived by one sister: Elizabeth A. Swenka of Albuquerque, NM; many nieces and nephews: Linda (Sims) Wright, Susan (Sims) Wright, Vicki (Barth) Weyant, Patricia (Barth) Bradfield, Kenny Barth, Mary (Barth)Smith, Barbara (Sims) Hamilton, Robert Sims, Steven Sims, Lee Swenka, and Tim Swenka; and cousin Robert (Betty) Lanham.
In death, Marvin has rejoined his parents, his sisters: Mary Schaffer and Luetta Barth; his brothers: Harry B. Sims Jr. and Glen A. Sims; and his nephews: Bill Schaffer and Fred Barth.
