Tom Masey
September 18, 1944 - February 5, 2024

Tom Masey, 79, of Oelwein passed away Monday February 5, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Oelwein.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday February 9, 2024 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein with Military Honors beginning at 6:30 PM by the American Legion Post 9 of Oelwein.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 10, 2024 at the funeral home with Rev. John Kerr officiating.  Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. 

Tom Wilson Masey was born in Kalamazoo, MI on September 18, 1944 to parents Howard and Helen (Wilson) Masey.  He graduated from Oelwein High School with the class of 1962.  Tom then enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country honorably from 1962-1966.  During his time in the Navy, Tom served as a submariner on the USS Sea Fox Submarine.  Following his Navy service, he attended and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with his BA in Business. 

On August 8, 1969 Tom was united in marriage with Linda Jensen at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Oelwein.  After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa he became a Federal Bank Examiner.  He then went into the banking business, serving as a loan officer in Cresco and Manly.  He worked at the First National Bank in Oelwein as the Vice President.  Later in his career, he worked for FEMA and was the Executive Director of Upper Explorerland.  He returned to banking and retired from Union Planters Bank in Oelwein.  He enjoyed spending afternoons fishing with his grandsons.

Left to celebrate Tom’s life are his daughter Christina (Randy) Fendell of Dyersville, his grandchildren: Collin Halligan of Oelwein, Conner Halligan of Algonquin, IL, Helen (Betsy) Halligan of Dyersville and Jensen Halligan of Dyersville; his mother-in-law Zapopa Jensen of Florida; his niece Kim Wyse of California and his cousin Brett Hawkins of Tennessee; as well as several more relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Linda; and his grandson Cael Halligan.
