Jeff Vargason
January 27, 1959 - March 5, 2014

Jeffrey Allen Vargason, 55, of Oelwein passed away on Wednesday March 5, 2014.  There will not be a public visitation.  Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 AM on Monday March 10, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Paul McManus officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jeff’s name.

Jeff was born on January 27, 1959 in Dubuque to parents Phoebe “Dolly” (Avery) and Richard Vargason.  He graduated from Oelwein Senior High School in 1977 where he was an accomplished wrestler and football player.  Following graduation, Jeff served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps for 16 years.  Jeff was united in marriage with Shelia Mitchell in September of 1981, they later divorced.  He was a truck driver with Ruan Transportation. 

Jeff loved to hunt and fish and was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan.  Most of all, Jeff loved his son and his family.  Jeff will be greatly missed by all who knew, and continue to love him.

Left to celebrate Jeff’s life is his son Matthew Vargason of Alabama; his girlfriend Michelle Dershem of Oelwein; his mother Dolly Vargason of Oelwein; his sister Vicki (Steve) Albert of Oelwein; his brothers: Michael John (Deb) Vargason of Oelwein, Richard (Liz) Vargason of Indianapolis, IN, and Rodney (Terri) Vargason of New Hampton; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Richard Vargason (2001).

I am struggling with the words to express my feelings. ..Although we hadn't been in touch much since high school..we always had big hugs when we would see each other. I remember Jeff as having a kind heart and warm smile. I am truly sorry for your loss.
