Wayne Lester Block, 82, of Oelwein passed away Thursday February 12, 2026 at Gunderson Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union.  Funeral services for family will be before visitaion.  Visitation will be from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM on Thursday February 19, 2026 at Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home of Oelwein.

Wayne Block was born in Hawkeye on April 30, 1943 to parents Lester and Mildred (Probst) Block.  He graduated from Sumner High School with the class of 1961.  On May 24, 1964 Wayne was united in marriage with Beverly Westendorf at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buck Creek.

Wayne retired from the Oelwein Community School District as Director of Building and Grounds for all schools.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein.  Wayne loved to go snowmobiling, boating on the river, fishing, time at their river home, and playing cards.  He also loved spending time with his family, friends and neighbors.

Left to celebrate Wayne’s life are his wife Beverly; his sons Mike (Becky) Block of Calamus and Brad (Misty) Block of Cedar Falls; his grandchildren: Hailey of Wayzata, MN, Jackson of Traer, Annaliese, Anderson and Piper of Cedar Falls; his sister-in-laws Rheta Block of Sumner, Marlene Fasse and Jolene (William) McCurdy of Waverly; his many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Dennis Block; his sister in infancy; his sister and brother-in-laws Reinhold and Verdeen PaVelec, Ed and Arnetta Whitt, Louis Becker, Aaron McKenzie and Virgil Fasse.
