David Fox
February 9, 1951 - December 20, 2019

On Friday afternoon, December 20, 2019, David Lee Fox, loving husband and father of two children and grandfather of three children, passed away at the age of 68. Dave died after a long battle with Huntington’s Disease. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Friday December 27, 2019 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday December 28, 2019 at the funeral home with Deacon Jim Patera officiating.  Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Fairbank.

Dave was born in Oelwein on February 9, 1951. He was raised on a family dairy farm in rural Fairbank. Dave attended the Oelwein school system and graduated in 1969. He married Brenda Maria Gardner on March 24, 1973. They were married for 46 years and lived most of their adult lives in the Oelwein and Lake Delhi areas. After retirement, they also had a winter residence in Mesa, Arizona.

Dave had two separate careers after graduating from high school. He worked ten years as a union laborer at Corn Blossom in Independence and three years at John Deere & Company in Waterloo. After the Iowa agricultural crisis in the early 1980’s, Dave graduated from Hawkeye Institute of Technology with an Associate degree in accounting in 1984 and Bachelor of Science degree in accounting with honors Summa Cum Laud, from Upper Iowa University in 1988. After graduation, he passed the Uniform CPA Examination on his first attempt.

Dave was a licensed certified public accountant (“CPA”), tax preparer and school auditor at the accounting firm, Ridihalgh Fuelling Snitker Weber & Co. for more than 25 years. Dave worked and served clients in their firm’s Jesup, Independence, and Oelwein offices. Dave was also an accounting instructor for Upper Iowa University.

Dave was an avid sports fan the rooting for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed attending all types sporting events and was an avid collector of sports memorabilia. He enjoyed boating with friends and family at Lake Delhi. He enjoyed playing softball, playing cards and bowling. He also was an assistant coach for King Knights’ youth baseball team. He also enjoyed traveling on vacation with his wife.

He is survived by his children, which include Shawn Fox (Nicole) and Kristi Fox and grandchildren, Dakota Nuttall, Tyler Welbourne, and Colten Welbourne. Dave is also survived by his siblings: John Fox (Dee) and sister, Diane McCormick (Marc), and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by siblings: Daryl Fox, Jim Fox, and Lyle Fox.
