Dell Hanson
August 1, 1929 - May 16, 2018

 

Dell Warren Hanson, 88, of Oelwein passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 on Friday May 18, 2018 at the Geilenfeld Funeral home in Oelwein. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday May 19, 2018 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 9 of Oelwein. A memorial fund has been established by the family.

Dell was born on August 1, 1929 in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Oran and Lilly (Lewis) Hanson. He grew up in Oelwein, attended school at Oelwein High School then joined the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1951. He was united in marriage to Elsie Banes on June 11, 1951 in Oelwein, Iowa. Dell worked forty years on the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He spent thirteen of those years in Eagle Grove than settled down in Oelwein. Dell enjoyed fishing, hunting, music and dancing, coaching kids football, his dog “Charlie” , telling jokes and just being around people, but his greatest enjoyment was his family.  He was a man with a firm handshake and a great hug.  Dell touched a lot of lives and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie, his children, Toni (Gary) Angle of Oelwein, Anita Ralston of Oelwein, Dell Hanson Of Oelwein and Amy (Jeff) Nehl of West Union; eight grandchildren, Shelly (Jeremy) Houge, Casey (Chad) Kohagen, Cody (Kylie) Angle, Steve M. Ralston, Jennifer (John) McDowell, Page (Brian) Benge, Jorden Nehl and Sam Nehl; sixteen great grandchildren, Jaida, Garrison, Creighton, Scout, Addy, Laney, Ryker, Bayah, Bryer, Bracy, Steven C., Etel, Kross, Kate, Kendra and Ireland.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Deloris (infancy); a son-in-law, Steven P. Ralston and a daughter-in-law, Connie Hanson.
