Dell Michael Hanson was born in Oelwein on January 29, 1960 to parents Dell Warren and Elsie Clara (Banes) Hanson. He graduated from Oelwein High school with the class of 1978. On November 2, 1979 he was united in marriage with LeAnn Vandersee in Oelwein, and they later divorced. In 1985 he was united in marriage with Connie Young in Topeka, KS, and she later passed away. Dell was employed as a Machinist with various industries, including operating his own machine shop.
Dell was a true outdoorsman, especially involving fishing, camping, riding and training horses and walking through the snow. He was an amazing craftsman whether working on vehicles, machines, welding or houses. He was a man who loved to tell stories and make people laugh. He absolutely loved music, especially 70’s and 80’s rock, and made a game of asking “Who sang this” with his children to make sure they knew all of the “true musicians.”
Left to celebrate Dell’s life are his children: Jennifer (John) McDowell of Solomon, KS and Paige (Brian) Benge of Indianola; his grandchildren: Tristian, Etel, Kross, Kayden, Kate, Kendra and Ireland; his mother Elsie Hanson of Oelwein; his siblings: Toni (Gary) Angle of Oelwein, Anita Ralston of Oelwein and Amy (Jeff) Nehl of West Union; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Connie Hanson; his father Dell Warren Hanson; and his brother-in-law Steve Ralston.
