Donald Francis Pingree, 61, of Oelwein passed away on Tuesday October 17, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded with love by his daughters and son in-law. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Sunday October 22, 2017 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday October 23, 2017 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Fairbank. A memorial fund has been established.
Don was born on August 10, 1956 to Eleanor Mae (Smith) and Francis Anthony Pingree. He graduated from Oelwein High School with the class of 1974. He then attended NICC for two years. Don worked several years for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and travelled to many places. He was employed at Dura in West Union for 10 years and after their closing he was employed with Hypro in Waterloo, and later with Bachman Tool and Die in Independence. Don also rented houses to many families over the years and enjoyed his many tenants. He was an outgoing, honest, hardworking and kind man.
Don enjoyed vacation, family, friends, wrestling and all sports, camping and fishing, playing cards, scratch tickets, concerts, Sudoku, Arnold Schwarzenegger and just living it up. His greatest joy was his three daughters whom feel honored to have had the time allowed with him.
Don is survived by his daughters: Nicole (Wade Yearous) Pingree, Tiffany Pingree and Kristen Pingree all of Oelwein; his grandchildren: Keagyn, Landyn, Talyn and Adalyn; his special friend Helen Brewer; his brother Joe (Liz) Pingree of Oelwein and his sister Mary Pingree of Oelwein; and the mother of his two youngest daughters: Rita Dugan. He was preceded in death by his parents.
