Francis “Frank” T. Stammeyer, 88 of Oelwein, IA, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021 at his home with family by his side. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 3:45 PM on Monday May 17, 2021 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 AM on Tuesday May 18, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.
Due to state and federal guidelines on gatherings regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing is required. Those in attendance are required to wear a mask.
Frank was born on June 26, 1932 at the family farm near St. Lucas, IA to Peter and Magdelena (Klemmer). Frank was married to Rose “Rosie” I. Huber for 47 years, having 10 children. After Rosie’s death, Frank met and married Lucille “Lu” Polark.
Frank was a father to Francis Stammeyer, James (Kathy) Stammeyer, Patti Childers, Thomas (Patricia) Stammeyer, Rebecca (Michael) Fauser, Nancy (Ricky) Black, Robert (Karen) Stammeyer, Paul (Kim) Stammeyer, Vicki (Steve) Baker, and Christy Stammeyer; and a stepfather to Roger (Bobbi Jo) Polark, Jim (Mary Jo) Polark, Dennis Polark, and Pam Polark.
Frank fulfilled his life passion from an early age by becoming an electrician, serving the community for decades through his business Stammeyer Electric. Frank was a member of the Oelwein Fire Department from 1963-1991, ultimately becoming Assistant Fire Chief. Frank was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he enjoyed weekly mass and coffee with the “church ladies” and he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Frank’s hobbies included fishing trips, family reunions, playing cards, traveling the world, and spending time at the casino with family and friends. Frank loved being father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, and to some he was just Great Frank.
Along with “the kids” and his stepchildren, Frank is survived by his sister, Anita Herold, brother David (Jackie) Stammeyer, sister-in-law Cindy Stammeyer, 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren, 4 step great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Frank is reuniting with his parents, Pete and Lena, wife Rosie, daughter Christy, wife Lu, son-in-law Mark, daughter-in-law Carolyn, stepson Dennis, brothers Donald, Richard, Florian, Peter, Lee, and Joe, sisters Margaret, Irene, and Marie, and brothers-in-law Cletus Herold, Jim Riffle, and William Schaufenbuel.
Frank lived his life his own way, on his own terms, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein, Oelwein Dollars for Scholars, or Cedar Valley Hospice in memory of Frank.
