Letha Givens, 90, of Oelwein passed away on Tuesday February 4, 2014 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM on Sunday February 9, 2014 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home. Memorial services will then be at 3 PM on Sunday at the funeral home as well, with Pastor Tim Schoepf officiating. A luncheon will follow. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein at a later date.
Letha was born on August 19, 1923 on the family farm near Hazleton. She was the daughter of John and Ethel (Allen) Diehl. On January 9, 1941, Letha was united in marriage with Charles Givens in Independence, Iowa.
Letha was a 4H Leader and enjoyed gardening and homemaking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and all her family. Throughout her life, Letha had been employed with Raytheon, Microswitch, Corn Blossom, Connor’s, Singer, Motel 6, Dairy Herd Improvement, Southview Estates and Oelwein Plaza; as well as wallpapering and sewing and alterations.
Left to celebrate Letha’s life are her children: John (Marsha) Givens of Lacrosse, WI, Mona (Jim) Arthur of Oelwein, Ruby Campbell of Strawberry Point, Dian (Don) Greeno of Casa Grande, AZ, and Linda (Phil) Ranck of Delaware, OH; her grandchildren: Jodi, Jeni, Angie, Becci, Lee, Rob, Jeff, Stephanie, Laura, Kelly and Jackie; several great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.
Letha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles (2001); her sisters: Myrtie, Pearl, Rose and Elsie; and her brother David.
