Thomas W. Gloede, 82, of Oelwein passed away on Tuesday September 24, 2013. Visitation will be from 3-8PM on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home with a Rosary Service at 6:30 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Tom will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.
Thomas “Tom” William Gloede was born on June 18, 1931 in Sumner, Iowa the son of George and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Kirby) Gloede. He grew up in the Oelwein area and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1949. On February 12, 1952 he enlisted into the U. S. Navy. While home on leave, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Roth on April 14, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. After the service he worked as a salesman and a Purchasing Agent while raising a beautiful family. He was the kind of person who would make friends very easily, so he leaves behind his family and a world of friends.
Tom is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Oelwein; his children, Kathy (Leo) Reisner of Potosi, Wisconsin, Bobbi Jo (Roger) Polark of Antioch, Illinois, Becky (Gordon) Hackett of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Tom (Donna) Gloede, Jr. of Oelwein, Lynn (Mike) Kane of Blue Grass, Iowa, Sandy Steil of Oelwein, Todd Gloede of Oelwein and Beth (Scott) Siebman of Wilmot, Wisconsin; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; a sister Fran (Lyle) Recker of Arlington, Iowa; a son-in-law, Richard Rogge of Hazleton, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Gloede; a daughter Judie Rogge; two sons-in-law, Bill Dudley and Dan Steil; twin grandsons, Matthew and Michael Steil and a great grandchild, Jared Reisner.
