Conrad Grundmeyer was born on April 11, 1919 to William and Mary (Surmeier) Grundmeyer in Raeville, Nebraska. On August 31, 1945 he was united in marriage to Alvina Sandman in Raeville, Nebraska. Conrad farmed in Nebraska until 1954 moving to Lamont, Iowa and later bought a farm near Strawberry Point, He retired in 1979 and moved to Oelwein and worked at Hickory Grove at maintenance.
Conrad enjoyed visits from family, gardening, woodworking, fixing things, traveling, great food and watching TV. Conrad and Alvina just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Conrad is survived by his wife Alvina of Oelwein, his children, Sheryl (Joel) Hammel of Castalia, Lila Dvorsky of Marion, Dale (Julie) Grundmeyer of Edgewood, Jane (Bob) Groth of Garber, Mary (Sharm) Samuelson of Oelwein, Julie (Brian) Kay of Des Moines, 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Conrad was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary, one brother, Fred Grundmeyer, three sisters Martha Recker, Emma Velder and Lorena Esch, a granddaughter, Jenny Grundmeyer and two son-in-laws, Vernon Dvorsky and Bob Jones.
A memorial fund for Heart of Hospice has been established in Conrad's name by the family.
SERVICES: Monday, September 13, 2010 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, Iowa with Father Harry Koelker officiating.
VISITATION: Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Geilenfled Funeral Home, with scripture service at 5:45 p.m.
