Garry Lee Hastings, 60, of Oelwein passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospital.
Garry was born on August 13, 1950 in Poplar Bluff, MO to parents Jewel and Dortha (Hemby) Hastings. He graduated from Edgewood-Colesburg Community School in 1970. On June 26, 1971 Garry was united in marriage to Margaret Meskell at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein.
Garry had been employed at Hilton Mobile Homes in Guttenberg, Fry’s Mobile Homes in West Union, City Laundry in Oelwein, Speedy’s Manufacturing Company in Oelwein, Boeing Aircraft in Wichita KS, and for the last 28 years at Transco Railway Products in Oelwein.
Garry enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and going to Saturday morning breakfast with the group at Country Cottage Café. He was always happy to volunteer at the American Legion for their breakfasts and dinners.
Garry will be missed by all who knew, and continue to love him: his wife Margaret; his daughter Stephanie (Brian) Prull and their children Alexis and Audrey of Waconia, MN; his mother Dortha Hastings of Edgewood; his brothers: Jerry (Patricia) Hastings of Edgewood and Frank (Jane) Hastings of Maquoketa; his sisters: Beverly (Dave) Atkinson of Edgewood, Phyllis (Steve Summers) Hastings of Guttenberg, Lois Miller of Garnavillo, and Lynn (Jim Opitz) Dahling of Strawberry Point; 18 nieces and nephews; 24 great nieces and nephews; cousins by the dozens; and many, many friends.
Visitation: 5-7 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein.
Funeral Services: 10:30 AM on Friday, December 31, 2010 at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein with Rev. Darwin Moore officiating.
