James Fortner, 61, of Oelwein passed away on Thursday August 18, 2016 with his family by his side. Private family services were held at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home. He was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery at Portage, IN on Tuesday August 23, 2016.
James David Fortner was born on May 1, 1955 in Gary, IN to parents Clearence and Berta (Johnson) Fortner. He was a machinist and had been employed with National Lock of Rockford, IL and with Gator Manufacturing of Independence, IA. Jim enjoyed doing his yardwork, including feeding and watching the squirrels, as well as fishing. Jim loved being surrounded by his family.
Left to celebrate Jim’s life are his children: Shelly (Shane) Prochaska of Randalia, Angela (Albert) Vratney of Aurora and Misty (Joshua) Williams of Oelwein; his ex-wife Janet Heginger of Oelwein; ten grandchildren two great-grandchildren; and his sister Marilyn Rosenquist of Portage, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, several other family members, along with family pet Tempest.
