Jan Arndt
May 30, 1936 - October 5, 2021

Jan Arndt, 85, of Oelwein passed away Tuesday October 5, 2021.  Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday October 9, 2021 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein.  Inurnment will be at a later date. 

Janann Lee Arndt was born in Hazleton on May 30, 1936 to parents Dr. Lester and Lucille (Wade) Proctor.  She graduated from Oelwein High School and then attended the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls.  On July 2, 1955 Jan was united in marriage with Richard “Dick” Arndt at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.  Jan had been employed with Dr. Proctor’ s office, Oelwein City Hall, Mulder Motors in Oelwein as an automobile sales agent and had driven a school bus for the Oelwein School District. Throughout the years Jan also worked in numerous retail establishments in Oelwein

Jan met many people while working with her father in his vet clinic. As a result, when you were out with Jan, she stopped to visit with the many familiar faces. She never met a stranger. In her early years she had a passion for sewing. Most all her children’s and husband’s clothing were sewn by her. Dick and Jan moved to a hobby farm where they raised hogs, calves and sweet corn. But she loved her bottle fed calves. She adored her family and friends and will be missed by many.

Left to Celebrate Jan’s life are her husband Dick, of 66 years; her children: Debie (Mike) Knickrehm of LeClaire, Julie (Brian) Sparks of Altoona, Lori Steciuk of Denison, Kerry (Kevin) Arnold of Johnson Creek, WI and Ted Arndt of Ocala, FL; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her sister Donis Frisch; her sisters-in-law: Barb Arndt, Carol Reid Cole, Carol Proctor and Naomi Proctor; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Jon and Ted Proctor; her parents-in-law Edward and Eleanore Arndt; her sisters-in-law: Maryann Munk and Eleanore Potratz; her brothers-in-law: Ted Arndt, Ken Potratz, Lowell Frisch and Al Munk; her granddaughter Lindsay Arnold.

We graduated together back in '53 from Oelwein High. It's hard to believe that Jan has left us already - this is much too soon! My deepest sympathy goes out to Dick and all of his large family. I am so very sorry for your loss..may she rest in Peace.
