Irene Jipson, 91, of Oelwein died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein.
Funeral services will be at 10:30AM Wednesday, August 29 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. Visitation will be from 4-7PM on Tuesday, August 28 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein and for the hour before the funeral service at the church. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.
Irene Edna (Gletty) Jipson was born on June 6, 1921 near Hawkeye, Iowa to parents Ira and Mabel (Hassler) Gletty. She married Ralph Ira Jipson on January 22, 1939 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein by Reverend H.S. Schiffler. They were married 73 years, 7 months, and 3 days.
Ralph and Irene moved to the family farm and lived there until they semi-retired. They then moved to the farm up the road, where they continued to live until moving to Grandview Healthcare Center, where Ralph still resides and is lovingly cared for by the staff there.
Irene attended Banks Township #1 Country School and then attended and graduated from Oran High School. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Afternoon Circle, Neighborhood Card Club and the Jolly Circle Club. Irene loved quilting, cooking, flowers, working in her garden, and enjoyed travelling to visit family.
Irene will be dearly missed by all who knew, and continue to love her, including: her husband Ralph; her daughter Shirley Skrobecki of Lincoln, NE; her son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Sandra Jipson of Oelwein; her 10 grandchildren; and her 20 great-grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents Ira and Mabel Gletty; her daughter Sharon Schuller; her sisters: Lucille Slater, Irma Kane and Galda Wood; and her brothers: Floyd Gletty and Russell Gletty.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein.
