Patricia Joy McClain was born June 1, 1929 on the family farm near Westgate, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Hazel (Ware) Fauser. She grew up in the area and graduated from Maynard High School in 1947. Pat met Virgil at a dance in The Coliseum in Oelwein. They were united in marriage on June 12, 1950 at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Virgil farmed and Pat helped with the farm work. She also worked as a clerk for OCCO and Iowa Finance and later as a cook at the Oelwein School, but her favorite job was being a homemaker for her family.
Pat enjoyed life. Even her middle name “Joy” was a reflection of how she lived her life. In her earlier years she enjoyed the activities of her children, especially watching Cindee play softball. She loved camping and boating at their cabin at Delhi. She and Virgil have always loved to dance, she was his dance partner for over sixty years. She loved the winter stays in Texas with all of their dear friends. Playing cards, going to coffee with their friends and sisters and walking filled up her days. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a good life with a loving family and many friends, she will be dearly missed along with her laughter and jokes.
Pat is survived by her husband, Virgil, a daughter, Pam and her husband, Mark Mahoney of Knoxville, Iowa, a son, Jim McClain and his wife, Anita of Cherokee, Iowa, her nine grandchildren, Jason (Jesse), Joshua (Maggie), Zachary, Stephanie, Cheyenne, Justin, Tara, Steven and Alex, eight great grandchildren, Sidd and Jack Mahoney, Evan, Devin, Isabelle, Gabriel, Jessalynn and Draven, her four siblings, Arlene Robinson and Jean (Merle) Smith both of Oelwein, and Grover (Gerry) Fauser and Duane (Maureen) Fauser both of Evansdale and a sister-in-law, Donna Fauser of Oelwein. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindee McClain, a sister, Marge Simpson, three brothers, Ernie Fauser, Max Fauser and Art Fauser and her parents, Art and Hazel.
