Marion Edna Sawvelle, 72, of Orange Park, FL passed away on Monday February 25, 2013. A celebration of Marion’s life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday July 3, 2013 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein with Rev. Robert Sawvelle officiating. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Jacksonville, FL. Marion will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.
Marion was born in Oelwein on June 22, 1940 to Maurice Robert Burke and Kathleen Edna Wolfe Burke. She spent many younger years in 4-H and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1958. On August 8, 1959, she married Phillip L. Sawvelle in Fairbank, IA. They had five children together and later lived in Ohio and New York. Marion returned to live in Oelwein for several years before moving to Florida in 1983 with her younger children. She worked in a variety of jobs and was named Artisan Soapworks’ Saleswoman of the year in 2009.
Marion enjoyed returning to Iowa for class reunions and visiting friends. She also enjoyed reading, making crafts for shows, playing bingo, and watching sports, including NASCAR. A devoted mom and grandmother, she loved visiting her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roy and Edna Wolfe and Robert and Mary Burke.
Marion is survived by her children: Robert (Carolyn) of Tucson, AZ, Brian of Tucson, AZ, Todd (Jim Hollifield) of Memphis, TN, Karen (John) Twomey of Lawrenceville, GA, and Linda (Ray) Champion of Jacksonville, FL; her grandchildren: Ashley (Andrew), Lindsay, Hannah, Lauren, Gregory, Shannon, Joseph, Daniel, Jennifer (Brian), Jonathan (Courtney), Meghan (Dion), and special “granddog” Katie; her brother Mike (Lavonne) Burke of Oelwein; her sisters: Maureen (Steve) Woodward of Oelwein, and Barbara (John) Miller of Ocala, FL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
