Richard "Dutch" Stofer, 83, of Oelwein passed away on Tuesday April 2, 2013 at Mercy Hospital. Visitation with the family will be from 5-8PM on Friday April 5th at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home with Masonic Services at 7PM and American Legion Services at 7:30PM. Memorial services will be at 10:30AM on Saturday April 6th at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein with Pastor Dean Schlitter officiating.
Richard “Dutch” Lowell Stofer was born on July 28, 1929 in Bagley, Iowa the son of Claude Ray and Mary E. (Miller) Stofer. He attended school and grew up in Cooper Iowa. Dutch enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in July 1946 and was Honorably Discharged in July 1949.
On October 29, 1949 Dutch was united in marriage to Mary E. Williams in Jefferson, Iowa. Dutch was a salesman and after his retirement he served as a magistrate in Fayette County for fifteen years. He was very active in his Masonic Lodge and church. He leaves behind many great relationships and memories with those who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
Dutch is survived by his wife Mary; his daughter Susan (Bruce) Sperry; his son Dale (Pat) Stofer; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; thirteen step great grandchildren; his sisters: Arliss (Kenneth) Buttler and Mary Hughes; and his sisters-in-law: Joan Stofer and Florence Siegenthaler.
He was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Mary; his son Kirk Stofer; four brothers: Don, Ron, Harold and Kenneth Stofer; two sisters: Thelma Guess and Pat Dowd; and two brothers and a sister in infancy.
