Violet James
September 4, 1924 - December 14, 2012

Violet Genevieve (Weston) James entered into her heavenly home on Friday December 14, 2012, at the age of 88.

Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Tuesday December 18, 2012 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday December 19, 2012 at the Eastside Church of Christ in Oelwein. 

Violet was born on September 4, 1924 at her home near Hazelton, IA to Mervin Otis Weston and Mary Louisa (McClintock) Weston.  They moved to Stanley and she helped her mother in feeding ten teachers three meals a day.  She graduated from Stanley High School in 1941.

On December 8, 1943, in Des Moines Violet married Lieutenant Kenneth Lincoln James, of Stanley, who served in the United States Army Air Corps.  They lived in Clovis, NM for 2 years while Ken finished his military service.  They then moved back to the Stanley area to farm with Ken’s family.  The union was blessed with four wonderful children: Judy, Phil, Paul and Joyce.

Violet spent her days helping Ken on the farm and gardening and canning to feed her family well.  She loved her flowerbeds, and enjoyed sewing, quilting and photography.

Violet was active in Farm Bureau Women and Scott Township 4H.  She and her family attended local churches on a regular basis and taught her children to memorize many Bible verses.

Violet is survived by her children: Judy (Ken) Lynn of Olathe, KS, Phil James of Stanley, Paul James of Stanley, and Joyce Young of LaPorte City; her daughter in-law Nancy James of Oelwein; she is also survived by her grandchildren and was loved by all: Chad Lynn, Amy Strong, Jason Lynn, Ryan Lynn, Kim Hurley, Jeff James, Kristen Frisch, Jon James, Jenn James, Emily Blanchard, Aaron James, Adam James, Justin James, Katie Johnston, Melanie Rasanen, Jacob Young and Joshua Young; and 33 great-grandchildren.

In death, Violet has rejoined her parents; her beloved husband Kenneth of 44 years (1988); her brothers: Leslie, Perley and Harry Weston; her sisters: Ruth Hughes, Elsie Barker and Mary Holmstrum; and nine nieces and nephews.

I wish to extend my sincere condolences to Violet's family. She was always a good caring neighbor and provided an extra hand whenever needed. I remember our time with her well. Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
