Wallace Fairchild
June 21, 1935 - September 6, 2017

Wallace Dean “Wally” Fairchild, 82, of Oelwein passed away on Wednesday September 6, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 AM on Tuesday September 12, 2017 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein. Services will then begin at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.

Wally was born on June 21, 1935 in Independence, IA to parents Edmond and Delpha (Heiserman) Fairchild.  He graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1953.  On May 29, 1954 he was united in marriage with Joan Mary Werdel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.  Wally was Manager of Ace Hardware in Oelwein from 1957-1969.  From 1969-1994 he was Sales Manager at Sears in Waterloo.  In 1994 Wally became a Sales Associate with Carol Lohrer Realtors in Oelwein until 2004.

Wally is survived by: his wife Joan of Oelwein; his daughter Susan (Mark Bahr) Ricchio of Sumner; his grandchildren: Andrew (Rachel) Jensen of Napa, CA, Christopher (Deanna) Jensen of Oelwein and Elizabeth (Corey) Faist of Early; his great-grandchildren: Landon, Hunter, Viviene, Alex, Grant and Lucas.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter Kathleen; his brother Keith Fairchild; his sisters: Joy Batterson and Jean Franklin.

HIGH SCHOOL DAYS THE CLASS OF 1953 THERE WERE 3 BUDDIES,
WALLY, DALE ZIMMERLY,FRANK GAULLP. THE 3 OF THEM PASSED AWAY IN 2 MONTHS TIME. I JUST KNOW THEY ARE LOOKING DOWN SAYING WE ARE STILL TOGETHER.
